Borgu – Bukkie Opebiyi

‘Borgu’ is a self-reflective, documentary photography project by Leeds-based photographer Bukkie Opebiyi. It makes up a larger, ongoing body of work about Nigerian culture, ‘Nigeria Unveiled: An Editorial Documentary’, that Opebiyi has been developing for several years.

Opebiyi grew up in Nigeria before moving to England in the 1990s. ‘Borgu’ charts her return journey to Niger, where her camera captures reminiscences of her childhood. “I had to see it all again”, explains Opebiyi, “as an adult with a different eye and a different cultural influence”.

All works on show will be for sale.

Artist’s biography
Amy Todman was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1982. She now lives and practices in Glasgow, assisting stained glass artist Liz Rowley, and exhibits nationally.
